My Favorite Mixed Media Supplies
My Favorite Supplies for Fluid Acrylics and Resin Paintings
Welcome! I'm Andi Garbarino, a mixed‑media artist who believes creativity and mindfulness go hand in hand. In this space, I share my favorite art supplies—tools I return to again and again, whether I’m creating a mindful mandala, layered collage, or colorful sketchbook spread. For me, I don’t really care so much about what is fancy or trendy, but I do care about using materials that will last for my collectors. When I’m working in my art journal, that’s one thing, but the pieces that are sold on this site and in markets and galleries, then I really invest in the more proffesional work!
Whether you’re just starting or looking to deepen a daily creative habit, simplicity is key. At its core, all you truly need to begin is a notebook (or even a recycled composition book) and something to mark it with—paint pens, brushes, or anything in between. But if you’re like me, you’ll soon want to build a little toolkit for playful layering of textures and color.
Over years of art journaling and teaching, I’ve realized that layers are a cornerstone of my process, so I reach for a Speedball soft rubber brayer, a palette knife, or a set of Taklon brushes to cover pages in rich color and texture. I follow by drawing geometric guides with a compass or geometry kit, then layer repeating patterns and motifs for a rhythmic, meditative flow.
For painting and doodling, acrylics and watercolor confections join forces: my go‑to brands include Liquitex Basics, Mondo Llama acrylics, Art Philosophy watercolors, and even Crayola watercolors for playful experimentation. And when it comes to pen work, Posca paint pens—especially medium, extra‑fine, and bold tips—and Mondo Llama tempera sticks are my markers of choice for expressive detail and layered highlights.
On this page, I’m excited to share you all of these favorites! Whether you're nurturing a quiet creative ritual or exploring joy through paper and paint, these tools are meant to support you at every step.
