TEXAS, I LOVE YOU.
Last month, Texas, the state where I was born and raised was hit with devastating, unprecedented winter storms. Folks across the state were left without power and heat, and many are still facing the impacts of the snow and ice. But, with a little help from ArtResin, I decided that we can all work together to pitch in and fill some pantries! Read on for details.
Challenge Accepted.
Last month, ArtResin contacted me with a challenge to create something with their product and show it off...the timing couldn't have been better, because the idea of this series was working itself out in my brain--I decided that this challenge would be perfect for the Texas Love Letters collection--because fifty percent of the profits from sales of the artwork would be going to the Houston Food Bank! Houston Food Bank!
THE PAINTINGS.
This collection was pretty fun, and also an emotional undertaking. How on earth do I communicate all my love for Texas? I decided to paint nature, and memories....Titles of these pieces include things like Blossom and Native, as well as 35 Road Trip and Stop the Car! The feelings of these pieces are just that...a road trip around Texas in the spring time, when you see the median full of Blue Bonnets, or when the cacti bloom in the sunset. Of course, I couldn't forget memories of Friday Nights at the stadium, so I sprinkled that all over the pieces in the form of glimmering glitter! This Texas girl also happened to captain her high school drill team, and sequins and glitter were familiar friends.
THE PROCESS.
So, once all of these paintings were ready, complete with some shimmering cowgirl glitter, it was time to resin them. I love using ArtResin, because I can work with it inside with the windows open--it's completely non-toxic. Furthermore, it's just plain gorgeous and I know that my work is going to be protected for a long time. Using ArtResin, I can work in layers for my collages, or in this case with paintings--it makes the glitter look like it is floating above the canvas. The transformation of what happens between adding the glitter and then pouring and curing the resin is pretty close to magic, if you ask me.
Also, there's something about measuring it, mixing it, and of course getting to torch it that I just LOVE! The torch pulls all the air bubbles out and burns off any dust.
NOT TO MENTION..
The end results are pretty stunning.
